Mr Matthew Smith

Mr Matthew Smith undertook his basic surgical training in the Manchester area and Specialist Registrar training on the North West Rotation. During his Specialist Registrar training he gained a diploma in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Technology (Dundee University, passed with Merit). After passing the FRCS (Tr & Orth) exam in 2006, and becoming a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, he specialised in Upper Limb Surgery by undertaking 3 fellowship posts. The Fellowship posts in Wrightington Hospital and The University of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (Preston and Chorley) were completed prior to the completion of his training and award of Certificate of Completion of Training leading to entrance to General Medical Council's Specialist Register.

He delayed taking up a consultant post by undertaking Peter Brownson's fellowship within The Liverpool Upper Limb Unit and was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust in July 2009, taking up post as a Specialist Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon within the Liverpool Upper limb Unit.
